Local businesses and individuals are invited to offer a monetary contribution to The Between Two Worlds concert and workshop to be held June 18 and 23rd respectively. World recognized drummer, percussionist and composer George Lernis will celebrate the release of his new album “Between Two Worlds” with a concert and discussion on June 18. On June 23, Lernis will offer a free workshop to student and adult immigrants interested producing and sharing more culturally resonant creations in music, media, visual arts, design, or any kind of media or art form.
Contributions go toward June 18 concert ticket subsidies to local middle-high students, college students, and members of various cultural and immigrant groups; workshop facilitation; compensation of musicians, lighting consultant, sound engineer, and piano tuner.
Lernis’ latest album, “Between Two Worlds” was inspired by a desire to offer an alternative to the ongoing stereotyping of immigrants based on their origins, religions and skin color. Being an immigrant himself, this is a social issue that he cares deeply about and explores through music and workshops.
